My work is all about milestones in people's lives. It's one of the things that make the work that I do so special to me. Recently I have started shooting high school seniors and I am loving it (this image is from a recent senior session). I used to teach high school so I feel connected to that age group already. They are at such a cool and scary time in their life. It's half amazing, hopeful and ready to conquer the world while the other half is scared, nervous and uncertain. My job is to make amazing images that capture the spirit of the age and give Mom and Dad something they can hold on to. in most cases, their child is heading out into the big, scary world to make their way and may never live under their roof again. Before I know it, it'll be me sitting in that hot seat watching my boys pack up and set off.

I remember the day that I packed my car with all my belongings, my scruffy dog and $1000 and headed to CA. I'll never forget the look in my Dad's teary eyes. It was everything from terror to pride. I didn't get that look back then but boy do I get it now.

What about you my friends? Any favorite shots today? Leave links to your images, Flickr, blogs, etc in the comments section below or add your images to our Favorite Shot Friday Flickr pool.

Happy weekend!

I know, you're used to seeing images of children and babies but we do shoot a few other things here at the studio too. This time of year we see a lot of high school seniors. This is Tasia. I love this shot!

I used to teach high school and really enjoyed it. High school kids are right in the middle of such an amazing time in their lives. It's a crazy mix of uncertainty-insecurity-opportunity-bravado-creativity-inhibition and righteousness (just to name a few). I taught photography and I loved seeing what they came up with and how they saw the world around them.

How about you guys, any favorite shots this Friday?  Please submit links to your images, blogs, etc. in the comments below or upload your images to our Favorite Shot Friday Flickr Pool. Don't be shy! The images don't need to be perfect- just loved by you!

I'm torn about what shot is my favorite for the week. It's a toss up today but it's one of these two. I have also decided that I want freckles just like him. Oh, and I want red hair to go with my freckles. I told him this while I was taking his picture and he looked at me kinda funny and said, "but I don't have red hair". He's so much fun to photograph and so sweet...even when he tried to talk to me completely in burps. It was especially hilarious when a guy came out of the door that was right next to us and said, "Um, we're doing a presentation in here and we can hear you". Awesome!

So, do you want know what it looks like when a 7 year old is over you and your camera? It's pretty much like this.

Anonymous says: Mona- for this session, I used my Canon EF 70-200 mm F 2.8 lens. (04.01.10 @ 09:14 PM)
Farrah Braniff says: Mona- not sure why it says "anonymous" but just wanted you to know that it was me that responded to your comment. :) (04.01.10 @ 09:16 PM)

I ask you this...honestly, how am I supposed to photograph this kind of beauty every day and NOT want to have another baby? It seems like, as soon as I put the thought into the back of my mind, a stunning little babe like this comes to the studio and it all comes rushing back. Her full head of black hair reminds me so much of my first son, Sayer, when he was born. It looked just like hers.

Finnian just turned 5 and Sayer is going to be, gasp, SEVEN! I feel like a broken record when I say it but, really, where did the time go?

Today the boys are with my parents being spoiled having a grand old time. I'm still up at work at 7:10 pm. I might go for a run and then meet Steven for dinner. We'll wake up tomorrow without any kids in our bed. We'll enjoy some peace and quiet and within a day we'll be missing them like crazy. I'm not 100% sure how we got to be so lucky but I'm just grateful.
