My students keep telling me that I need to make Pinterest pages with demos of crafty things and photography this and that. It's an awesome idea but I'm trying to be realistic about WHEN that could actually happen. I do think it needs to happen and it would be very cool. My Pinterest is largely ignored and randomly populated. I could be making cool things happen over there. I'm considering...What would you like to see?
On that note, I feel deeply tired. I know I should be getting more sleep but I think it's more than that. I think it's life. Right now, there's a lot going on in my own life as well as the lives of my closest friends. Things feel weighty and, as I've mentioned before, I'm not the best at certain types of self care. Rest is one of those things. I need more rest and I'm going to...try and work on that? (read that with a non-committal tone and a questioning upward lift at the end)
This week I've been sinking deeply into analog...records, the darkroom, making cyanotypes, drawing, working in my journal and writing letters. I am loving it. Just this morning I stopped by the art supply store to grab more pencils and pens. I'm obsessed with the perfect pencil and pen. The feel of a great pen on paper is truly a marvelous thing. I'm working on this drawing at the moment. Perhaps it's the feeling of weight but I can't stop drawing feathers.
I did take some time out to go see a movie, which felt so indulgent. I even snuck beer into the movies, scandalous. I saw 'Gone Girl' and was freaked out for days. This collection of tweets says it all.
And this...I think I've watched this film at least 15 times. My 9 year old has watched it with me twice. I've started training in kick boxing and Tae Kwan Do and this fighter just amazes me. Her natural feminism and fearlessness move me. I can't get enough of her strength.
Finally, I found this amazing quote in one of my student's photo journals. I love it so, so, so much.
"Don't ever lose your softness to their arrogance, let your soul give them hell." (Rachel Wolchin)
And with that, my lovelies, have an awesome weekend!
