When the summer heat cranks up here in Houston, I start to dream about Santa Barbara...
Cool, foggy mornings
Coffee at Handlebar Roasters
Renaud's almond croissants
The farmer's market
How the lights on the offshore oil platforms make them look like birthday cakes in the night sky
Wearing hoodies in the summer
The sound of seals
The moon over the ocean
The Channel Islands in the distance
Sleeping with the windows open
The best strawberries you have ever tasted
Driving with the windows rolled down
How everyday the ocean looks a little bit different than the day before
Lunch at La Super Rica
My kids playing in the waves
Sunset over the water
And, most of all, that feeling I get when looking out at the seemingly endless water of the Pacific. It makes me feel connected to something bigger (which is something I struggle to connect with here in Houston). It feels wide open and powerful. In that moment, I can breathe more deeply.
For the month of August, I'll be calling upon California for inspiration. Maybe it can inspire you too? Here's a little California inspiration from me to you...
Here is an Etsy treasury I created for some visual inspiration.
And my favorite California song:
And finally, an art piece I've been playing with that is inspired by the awesome coastline of Big Sur, California and a photo that I took when my husband and I camped there many years ago (just dating when I took the picture). I'm not quite sure where this piece is headed but I'll post the end result when I finish it.
Thanks for reading!
